For men, testosterone is a particularly important hormone. Testosterone is central to development of the male sexual organs during puberty. It also contributes to the growth of facial, pubic and body hair and the characteristic deepening of the male voice. Testosterone’s importance does not end after the teenage years either. It contributes to male libido and mood, which means that when testosterone levels are down, it can affect a man’s emotional and physical well-being significantly.

- Erectile Dysfunction. For most healthy men,the inability to achieve or maintain an erection could be a result of lowered levels of testosterone.
- Depression. Studies have shown that men with low testosterone levels are four times more likely to be diagnosed with clinical depression.
- Decreased Libido. Testosterone levels in both men and women plays an important role in sexual desire. Low testosterone levels can result in a lowered desire for intimacy
- Shrinking Testicles. In men, low testosterone levels can result in a shrinking of the testicles.
- Less-Pleasurable Erections. When a man experiences a diminished sexual response and weakened erections, this could be a sign that testosterone levels are low.
- Decreased in Height. Testosterone contributes to bone strength, so low testosterone levels can lead to losing height, which is not uncommon after age 55. If you feel you are losing height, it may be a good idea to ask your doctor to test your testosterone levels.
- Decrease in Ejaculate. When a man’s testosterone levels are low, the volume of ejaculate decreases.
- Decreased Strength. Testosterone also plays a role in muscle mass, so if you have decreased strength or endurance but haven’t changed your workout regime, it could be a sign of decreased testosterone.
- Lack of Energy. Low testosterone can also translate to low energy levels. If you are experiencing a noticeable decline in energy, you may be showing signs of lowered testosterone.
- Other Health Issues. Other health issues can impact testosterone levels. Thyroid problems, obesity, and type 2 diabetes are the most common culprits.
